The Runnymede whaling tour explores historic whaling from Tasmanian waters by the Bayley sea captains who operated Tasmania’s most successful whaling fleet in the
19th century. Learn about their lives at sea, their home life and the lives of the women who supported them in their endeavours. This tour continues the story of whaling from 1900 onwards and incorporates the issues that affect whales and their survival today and the campaign to stop the hunting of whales by the Sea Shepherd Organisation. While our attitudes to whaling may differ from those held by the people who made their living from whales more than 100 years ago, it is still a fascinating history full of brave men and women, and brave deeds.
